Nya Carnegiebryggeriet (New Carnegie Brewery) is a shining example of how far the development of beer and brewing culture has come around the world. Built on Swedish soil with American influences, we combine the brewing expertise of renowned Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster Garrett Oliver with our team of hand-picked brewers, led by our Brewmaster (and Swedish homebrewing champion) Anders Wendler. It all got started in 2011, when Carlsberg Sweden teamed up with Brooklyn Brewery to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Carnegie Porter, Sweden’s oldest still-existing brand, by brewing a decadent bourbon barrel-aged version of the world-famous elixir. Everyone had a blast, and the seed for today’s collaboration was sown. After securing the support of private investors, including local bar owners and restaurateurs who shared our dream, we were off and running. The result is a new line of beers under the brand Nya Carnegiebryggeriet aimed squarely at the ever-growing Swedish appreciation for flavor and seasonal tastes. The lineup features five year-round beers, two seasonal releases and several special limited-run experiments. While the brewing team has been hired and trained by Brooklyn Brewery, all Brooklyn beers continue to be brewed in New York. Our restaurant, helmed by chef Luke Hurst, is dedicated to crafting locally sourced dishes specifically designed to pair with the beers that the brewing team is churning out just a few feet away. As we seek to establish ourselves as a beacon of beer, it seems only fitting that we’re housed in an old lightbulb factory. The Luma factory was originally built in 1930 to produce and test different kinds of lightbulbs, and the thick glass windows facing the water and low-hanging reinforced ceiling beams are a constant reminder of the potentially explosive work that used to be carried out here. On tap you’ll find a mix of our year-round and specialty/seasonal beers, a couple of limited release Brooklyn Brewery beers and a rotating selection of beers from our craft beer brethren here in Sweden. You can see what’s on tap right now by scrolling down to the “On tap” section of our homepage. We’ve already hosted a brewer’s technical conference and are planning a variety of classes, talks and brewery tours dedicated to the advancement of the new brewing culture we’re so proud to be a part of.
